Attack on Nigerian prison results in escape of 118 inmates

Nobody has claimed responsibility for the attack which killed a guard

hundreds of prisoners escaped after ten-eight gunmen attacked a federal prison in Nigeria and killed a guard, according to a spokesman.

• Kayode Odeyemi, spokesman for the prison administration in Nigeria, said the attack occurred Wednesday Karifi Koton, a town south of the capital, Abuja.

Odeyemi said that so far no one has claimed responsibility for the attack.

A radical Islamist sect known as Boko Haram launched a mass breakout in Bauchi State, in September 2010, has released about 700 prisoners.
